New Plans – New Skills

I’m leaving Hereford! The time has come to seek new opportunities away from the shire… A much needed change I feel! My studio is all packed up and all my art materials are tucked away in boxes ready for moving. While my studio activities have been put on hold, I have been doing something new.

I initially started a embroidery project with the intention of using it for some merchandise for my band, but I got a bit carried away with other ideas. Here is my customized ‘Roses Are Dead’ jacket. I have also started another jacket which is going end up looking like a surreal landscape.

This eye will form part of the top ‘sky’ panel. I’m interested to see what this jacket will look like when it’s finished as this is something different for me.

I will keep you all posted 🙂

Bristol, here I come!

Happy New Year!

IMG_20171231_132233Wishing you all a very happy 2018! Thank you to everyone who has followed my work in 2017. Your support and interaction has been wonderful. Lets hope this year brings more positive possibilities. This year has been an extremely challenging one for me. My everyday life seems to be woven with frustrating obstacles that get in the way of my creative life. Art, music and storytelling is always a sanctuary of inspiration and comfort and I love the connections it creates with people who are attuned to it. The more I can incorporate these into my everyday existence, the more I become closer to the person I wish to be. Hopefully one day, my art life and everyday life will feel more like one thing, rather than the one fighting the other.

Above everything else, having a positive connection to the people and the world around me is so important.

What I hope to achieve in 2018:

Work hard

Be healthy

Be art

Be music

Be kind

I hope you all find happiness and inspiration in 2018!

I’m planning on leaving a mash-up print at Down On The Farm Festival  next weekend where my band January Girl are playing. Please…don’t rain!!!

What have i been doing? – I QUIT MY JOB!

I’m not going to lie here. I hate my job. My brain hates it. My brain had started to turn against me by pulling it’s shutters down, turning up the white noise and setting itself to a soupy simmer. I tried to gain control over this disorientating, mushy feeling by being very stubborn and ignoring it. It didn’t work…

I don’t have another job lined up (cue ominous chords). I just have this feeling that i needed to change something and to reconnect fully to my art and my creative process.

Scary

Exciting

Irresponsible

Life saving

Yay

Friday Night was an absolute charmer of an evening. I Popped into the February – 28 Paintings in 28 Days’ Exhibition with my trusty sidekick and photographer in crime, Grace Biddlecombe, and was greeted by a buzzing atmosphere – a room of smiling art appreciators, or perhaps they were Ria Parfitt fans. After all, the girl is a diamond. Grace snapped plenty of photographs for us to share with you and hopefully, inspire you to come along and experience Ria Parfitt’s playful art. Interpret as you wish!

The good news is she sold 14 paintings that night and several prints. On the second day she sold more. Wow. The prints are rather stunning as well, so you can pick one up if your favourite painting…

Hang time! Setting up my exhibition

It’s been a while since I last put on a solo exhibition. Gone are the days where you could just bang a nail in a wall “sigh”. My best buddy and occasional stress reliever, Mr Blu Tack has been banished too. Today I was at De Koffie Pot Gallery on Hereford’s Left Bank Village, hanging my new exhibition.  The complex is situated on the banks of the river Wye and has a beautiful feel to it. It’s a nice slice of city/country life.

Today was great. I had fun hanging my work and listening to all the activity going on around me. My February collection filled up the wall space nicely and I’m pleased with how it’s all looking. I have a few more finishing touches to add tomorrow morning and then the setup is complete and ready for the private view on the evening. I’ve made a playlist of the music i was listening to throughout my painting challenge which will be played at tomorrow nights viewing. I’m looking forward to it! Just got to decide what to wear 🙂

Local & Loved Art Rocker Ria Parfitt to Exhibit at De Koffie Pot Gallery 10-17 March

Hereford City Centric Retail & Culture Blog

10th-17th of March at De Koffie Pot, Bridge Street, Hereford HR4 9DG

Ria parfitt exhibit at the koffie pot, March in Hereford Ria often focuses on certain facial features in her paintings, including the mouth. ‘

Artist and Musician Ria Parfitt has created a self-exploratory collection called‘February – 28 Paintings in 28 Days’  A challenge she set upon herself to create and complete paintings in an allocated time frame that wasn’t very generous. She successfully completed her daily tasks which then transformed into a deeper, more profound journey of self reflection as to how she approached her work gaining an enlightened understanding that she was more confidant than she had perceived herself to be.

Her work has roots in surrealism but not in the classic sense, she embraces Magic Realism, but I also notice Pop Art influences. I think of Ria’s art and music with her band Mexicolaas one of those summer fairs full of bright lights, lovers…
